Megan Wood
I’m Megan Wood, a sophomore studying journalism. Though I was born in New Jersey, I feel I have the right to claim the title of a Colorado native, living in Colorado Springs since before I was a year old. My house of 18 years just burned down in late June in one of the fires that blazed across the state, leaving me feeling an even deeper connection to Northwestern as my other home. Colorado has fostered my love of hiking and skiing, and just being in the mountains. That proved to be a hard adjustment, coming to a place that doesn’t even register the word ‘hill.’ However, I quickly realized Lake Michigan was just as magnificent as the Rockies and all the opportunities Chicago had to offer were unparalleled. I’ve focused many of my journalistic endeavors in the diverse city, such as a story on the work of nonprofits fighting illiteracy, because it’s so full of innovation and history. When not completely immersed in journalism and writing for publications, I enjoy tutoring elementary school students through the volunteer program, YOU, and playing tennis. I’m also working as a mentor for the YMCA program, SOAR, this year. The Northwestern community is so diverse and intellectually stimulating in itself, and the Chicago community only exceeds that welcoming reach. I’m so looking forward to continuing my exploration of the city through “Never a City so Real.”
